I am a painter who explores how social constructs of female beauty and identity are represented in 'old master' painting and more recently in contemporary women. I want to challenge the viewer by creating a simultaneous sense of classical art history and edgy cultural modernity.

Representations of paintings are cropped and then painted to mimic the original. I sometimes use tumble dryer felt, table cloths and lace doilies to refer to domesticity and the mundane processes of living. I explore the duality of foreground and background in the use of dribbled or layered paint and repeat wallpaper patterns.
In my most recent work I have been experimenting with the 'old master' trope by replacing the object of the portrait painting with a contemporary woman.
My intention is to create beautiful and seductive images which also have the power to disrupt the reading by creating a sense of dissonance and questioning.
